It is not really fair to call farmer’s markets such here in Okinawa. They are actually more co-ops, selling produce and items brought to them by nearby farmers.
None the less, these markets tend to have better prices, better sizes and more variety than your local grocery store. They are definitely worth seeking out. I guarantee your neighbourhood has one nearby, especially if you see a number of green houses and fields near by.
For other markets, see my visits here.

This farmer’s market has a little petting zoo with this super cute pot bellied pig, chickens, rabbits, goats and ponies.

GREENS! GREENS AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE! And cheap, too. Salads at the regular grocery store are not inexpensive, and I do not like buying pre-prepared salads anyhow. You cannot know how excited I was running around this place. Local! Cheap! Fresh!

It was nice to buy more than two leaves of herbs for 300yen. I got a huge bundle of cilantro for 100yen and a bunch of dill for the same.

Not so much on the fruit side of things. They do get in melons, bananas and oranges though. Occasionally pineapples, passionfruits and guavas.

There was also a pretty decent fish market. Those crabs are about $13. There are whole fresh fish and sliced sashimi as well.
There is a greenhouse where they sell plants, and they also sell cut flowers.

Seeds, too.

Not your usual farmer’s market – almost everything has a barcode.

There are small yatai, or stalls, selling cooked foods at the entrance, as well as dry snacks, clothing and prepared foods inside. Their tofu is also quite good.
